Features

Built for libraries you already keep.

Scan once, pin what you love, and listen with an interface designed to stay out of the way.

  • Folders as playlists

Device folders become the unit of organization—not one endless dump of every file.

  • Pin what matters

Star folders onto your Library dashboard. Leave recordings and noise in All folders.

  • Offline is the product

No account, no streaming catalog, no network required. Airplane mode is enough.

  • Calm Now Playing

Waveform seek, shuffle and repeat, mini-player dock, background and lock-screen controls.

  • Collections on device

Playlists, liked tracks, recently and most played—stored locally on your phone.

  • Extras that stay out of the way

Playback speed, sleep timer, equalizer presets, and light / dark / system theme.

Privacy

Completely private by design.

Grain is a player for files on your device. It does not need the network to do its job, and it does not run a social or subscription layer on top of your library.

  • No account

Never create a username, email, or profile.

  • No cloud sync

Your library is not uploaded to Red Saturn or any music service.

  • No streaming backend

Playback does not depend on the internet.

  • Local-first data

Settings, playlists, favorites, and history live on your phone.

Install

Sideload and listen.

No Play Store required. Install via release APK in three steps.

  1. 01

    Download the APK

Get the latest release build from GitHub. Only the APK is required—not the project folder.

  2. 02

    Allow unknown apps

On Android, enable install from that source when prompted (Install unknown apps).

  3. 03

    Install & grant audio access

Open the APK, install Grain, then allow music/audio access so it can find your library.

Open source

Inspectable. Modifiable. Yours to study.

Grain is open source under the MIT license. There is no proprietary streaming service behind it—the product is the app binary and its source. Stack: Expo / React Native, TypeScript, Track Player, SQLite, Zustand.

Made by Red Saturn — independent software craft.
